Hello
Desiree Contreras is a Los Angeles–based embroidery artist and fashion designer, and the founder of Chopped Up Cherries and Chopped Up Cherries Mobile Embroidery. Known for bold, mixed-media embroidery and one-of-one designs, she blends traditional techniques with modern storytelling to create statement pieces that stand out.

Starting with just $14 and one embroidery machine, Desiree built her business through grit, discipline, and creativity and going on to collaborate with major brands, institutions, influencers, and celebrities. Every piece is designed, digitized, and executed by hand, using advanced embroidery techniques and intentional detail.

Rooted in Los Angeles culture and community, her work is driven by one belief:
Tiny stitches can build big dreams.
My Story
My journey started with $14, one embroidery machine, and a decision to bet on myself. After losing my job, I worked nonstop—taking every opportunity I could, learning through trial and error, and trusting that consistency would open doors. What began as survival slowly turned into purpose.

With a background in graphic design and a deep love for storytelling through art, embroidery became my language. I taught myself advanced techniques, pushed past limitations, and committed to mastering my craft. That dedication led to collaborations with major brands, institutions, and artists but the heart of my work has always stayed the same.

I create one-of-one pieces inspired by my Los Angeles roots, my community, and the belief that creativity can change lives. My story is proof that when hard work meets faith and vision, tiny stitches really can build big dreams.
